DIY E-Liquid

Vaping is the newest trend in town; from the variety of flavours, you can try the ability to tweak your vape liquid or eliquid to whatever you want. Most people who get their eliquid can attest to how expensive some of the liquids are. But it is relatively simple to make your own eliquid with easy to find materials. This method is extremely cheap when compared to the store bought variety and everyone who vapes should try to make their own eliquid at one point at least for fun.

Warning: It is absolutely imperative that you wear all the necessary safety gear and know about the potentially dangerous substances you are handling.

Things Required:

  • Vegetable Glycerin
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Nicotine (Optional)
  • Flavouring
  • Measuring Cylinders
  • Funnels
  • Pipettes (preferably disposable)
  • Glass Bottle: Try to get an amber bottle, blue tinted or any tinted bottle to store the eliquid as the tinted bottles keep the light out and prevent the flavours frombecoming ruined. This also ensures if you have used nicotine in your recipe then that does not degrade from exposure to light. Plastic bottles absorb flavours and cannot be reused so using a tinted glass bottle is the best choice for the best quality.

After getting the ingredients, some math needs to be done. Many online calculators are available which lets you choose the ratio of Vegetable Glycerin (VG) to Propylene Glycol (PG), the strength of nicotine. Next is the flavour ratio. Flavours also come with PG and VG as its base. So when adding it to your recipe, remember to adjust the PG to VG ratio. A good basic ratio is 50% PG and 50% VG.

But what about the taste? This is up to the user’s discretion but if you don’t know what you are doing, you can try the 5% rule where you add 5% of the flavour of the whole batch with no nicotine. This way you know how much more or less should be added to get your desired taste. Once all your ratios are worked out, you are ready to start mixing.

Add in the flavours you want to the measuring cylinder using a pipette. Then put in the required amount of PG and VG (and Nicotine) into the cylinder. Transfer the liquid into the glass bottle with the help of a funnel. Now you have to shake the bottle around so the different liquids at different densities will settle in with each other.

After this, it isn’t ready to be smoked just yet. You need to cure the liquid so the flavour is properly pronounced and some flavours have ethyl alcohol which needs to be evaporated off. Keeping the liquid in a dark room for at least a week will make a lot of difference to the kind of vaping you will be able to do.
